[[Fight]]You attack the beast with your bo staff, but most of the attacks seem to bounce off harmlessly. The monster drags you toward its gaping mouth.
[[Next|asf98g]]You hurl rocks at the beast, but most seem to bounce off harmlessly. Just before the beast can devour your Sensei, you manage to scoop up a sharp, heavy rock. You take a steadying breath and aim at the creature's center eye. You hurl the rock with all your might.
[[Next|as8g8]]You battle the evil Lord Hawk using every trick in the book. To your credit, you get a few really good hits in, but the vicious Shyfter is far too powerful.
[[Next|asfg9]]You look over your shoulder and see your Sensei desperately trying to keep up. He's clutching his side, gasping for air as he stumbles after you.
[[Next|oifjg]]Suddenly a large chunk of the ceiling crashes down in front of you, completely destroying the walkway ahead. You have no choice but to jump. Well, I guess you do have another choice: you could let the tentacle monster devour you, but I don't think you're ready to die just yet.
[[Leap across the gap on your own]]
[[Help your Sensei jump across]]You charge ahead and leap across the gap in super dramatic slow motion as one of the giant tentacles lashes out at you, barely missing the back of your heel. You land on the far side, roll, and turn to face your Sensei.
[[Next|as9g9ga]]You give your Sensei a magical boost, helping him clear the gap easily. Suddenly the tentacle monster is upon you! It wraps one of its slimy tentacles around you. You must fight it to break free!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 1>>\Your Sensei builds up his energy and takes a running leap, but he doesn't go far enough. You reach out your hand to catch hold of his wrist. Your fingers touch, but suddenly a slimy tentacle wraps around the old man's waist!
[[Leave your master to his fate]]
[[Throw rocks at the monster|Fight]]
<<set $state = 2>>\You turn away and sprint down the hallway. Your master lived a good life, right? He was old anyway. Besides, your Sensei isn't important. What's important is the sacred manuscript hidden in your pocket. That's what you came here for.
[[Next|asdf8g8g]]Your master knew the risks. His death isn't on you. Your job is to get the out of this castle and deliver the manuscript to the Circle. They'll know what to do with it.
[[Next|iodi]]There is a sudden explosion as the wall next to you is blasted away. You tumble through the air and smash against the far wall, which sends a few smaller rocks tumbling down.
[[Next|sf9gu]]You shake your head to clear it. The sound of heavy footsteps brings you to your senses. You look up and see a man clad in black armor standing before you.
The Scroll of Sages... this ancient manuscript contains the secrets to life itself. With it, I will become a god! And you... you will die here, buried in the rubble of this old castle along with your pathetic master. Farewell!
[[Next|poasjg]]The rock punctures the monster's eye, sending a spray of goo splattering in all directions. Blinded, the tentacle monster begins thrashing wildly. It releases its hold on you and hurls you over the balcony. You begin to plummet to the lower floor.
A master of water kung fu? Certainly! You're looking at one! My name is Grandmaster Yeoh.
[[It is an honor to meet you, Grandmaster Yeoh.]]
[[Can you teach me the Rain Dance kata?]]You and the grandmaster bow to each other.
[[Can you teach me the Rain Dance kata?]]GRANDMASTER YEOH:
I don't normally train students, but I suppose I owe you for helping me with those thugs in there. Please follow me. I will teach you what I can.
[[Next|sf9g9s]]Grandmaster Yeoh leads you to a quiet meadow outside of town. A softly babbling brook cuts through the fields. The grandmaster begins to demonstrate a series of movements, which you attempt to replicate. You are a skilled martial artist, and by the time the sun sets you have mastered the Rain Dance form.
[[Next|asd9g9ssdf]]Moonlight shines down upon you and Grandmaster Yeoh. She stands across from you in the gently rolling meadow, eager to test your new skills and see how much you have learned.
[[Next|sdf9gdh9]]GRANDMASTER YEOH:
I have shown you the techniques, but now you must demonstrate what you have learned. Come! Spar with me and show me your skill.
[[I will not hold back!|Fight]]
[[Your tutelage is greatly appreciated. I am ready for my final test.|Fight]]
<<set $state = 15>>\You and Grandmaster Yeoh spar in the moonlight. Your moves mirror hers. The two of you seem to dance across the meadow, flowing and crashing around one another like waves against the shore.
[[Next|asdfkgls]]At last you find an opening. With the force of a mighty wave, you strike. Grandmaster Yeoh tumbles backward but quickly rolls up into a defensive posture. You're prepared to strike again, but she raises a hand and motions for you to stop.
[[Next|asg99]]GRANDMASTER YEOH:
Excellent form! You are a fast learner and a talented martial artist. You have demonstrated your mastery over the Rain Dance form and proved yourself worthy to be a master of the water style of kung fu.
[[Next|sdf9g9]]GRANDMASTER YEOH:
There is nothing more I can teach you. Go now! Continue your quest and bring peace back to the realm.
[[Thank you for your instruction, Grandmaster.|fdsg99s]]
[[Lord Hawk doesn't stand a chance against me!|fdsg99s]]You bow to Grandmaster Yeoh and leave the meadow far behind. You have mastered Water Kung Fu, but 3 more styles await! Only when you master all 4 of the Elemental Styles can you hope to wield the magic sword and defeat Lord Hawk. You press onward, ready for your next adventure.
CHAPTER 4
"FLAME SPIRIT"
[[Begin|ch4]]

\In your last adventure, you met a master of the Water Style. You learned the secret Rain Dance Kata and now you are on your way to find a master of the Fire Style, better known as “Flame Spirit.”
[[Next|asdlslglflhlflh]]You venture out into the hills in search of a fire master. The land is desolate and barren. You are discouraged to find that you don't pass anyone on your journey.
[[Next|sdf0g09s]]After travelling for several hours you take a seat on a large boulder and begin to eat a simple lunch. Just then the ground begins to rumble beneath your feet. You notice a dust cloud on the horizon. Before long you're able to make out the shapes of men on horseback.
[[Next|dfkgdgg]]You stand and hold up a hand as the riders draw near. Their garb shows them to be members of the warrior class, but their lack of banners or insignias reveals that this group of samurai serves no master- they are ronin.
[[Greetings! I seek a master of the Flame Spirit style of kung fu. Can anyone point me in the direction of a master?]]
[[Where do you ride to with such haste?]]RONIN:
Fortune favors you, traveler. My companions and I all mastered the art of Flame Spirit long ago. But we have little time to spare. Our quest is urgent.
[[What is your quest?]]
[[I will aid you on your quest if you can teach me the ways of Flame Spirit.]]RONIN:
A tyrant has taken control of High Rock Village. We ride for the Moonpath- it is the quickest way to High Rock.
[[What do you mean to do when you arrive there?]]RONIN:
A tyrant has taken control of High Rock Village. We ride for the Moonpath- it is the quickest way to High Rock.
[[What do you mean to do when you arrive there?]]
[[I will aid you on your quest if you can teach me the ways of Flame Spirit.]]At that moment a black-feathered arrow zooms out of the bushes and embeds itself in the ronin's chest. He gasps for breath and topples off his horse, dead.
[[Next|dfg8g8]]RONIN:
We will take the tyrant's head and collect our reward. Then we will ride on. That is the way of the Warriors of the Flame Spirit.
[[Can you defeat this tyrant on your own? There are so few of you. Surely this tyrant commands an army?]]
[[I will aid you on your quest if you can teach me the ways of Flame Spirit.]]The other riders rear their horses, but the spooked beasts thrash about in panic. Several more black arrows rain down from the surrounding trees and bushes. Two more ronin fall.
[[Stand your ground]]
[[Search for the assassins]]RONIN:
Each of us is worth ten men in combat! Our purpose is true. We will find victory.
[[Next|sd8fg8]]You rally the ronin to your position and stand your ground. A moment later a thousand ninjas burst out of the bushes like a flood of diarrhea!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 17>>\You leap into the trees, catching the attackers by surprise!
[[Next|dfg8g8]]You route the ninjas, killing most of them in gruesome ways. The few survivors flee into the woods.
[[Next|lasfkgdlkfgir]]RONIN:
Venomfist assassins! Look at this: it is their emblem. Each of these fools bears the same mark on their uniform. They must have been hired to ensure our quest ends in failure.
[[Next|asglsfgh]]RONIN 2:
Then it would seem as though they have succeeded. We may have defeated them here, but the three of us are all that remain now. All hope of overthrowing the tyrant is lost!
[[I will aid you in your quest.]]
[[Do not give up hope! I will fight with you. If each of you is worth ten men in combat, then I am worth a hundred!]]RONIN:
I fear we cannot accept your aid. We took this contract with the expectation that the reward would be split seven ways. Though our companions have fallen, we are still bound by that contract. Their portions of the reward would be paid to their families and heirs. If you helped us on this mission, there would be no reward left for you.
[[I do not seek gold or glory. Teach me your style of kung fu!]]
[[I came seeking masters of the Flame Spirit and fate has led me to you. Allow me to learn your unique style of martial arts and I will consider that reward enough.]]RONIN:

[[Next|aslglsa]]You creep into the village in search of the tyrant. All is silent. Just then a voice calls out to you from the shadows.
[[Next|aslglsa]]VOICE:
Psst! Over here!
[[Next|aslgaeeoeo99]]You cautiously approach a dark alleyway. A man wearing a deep hood is standing in the shadows. He is eating an apple, but he doesn’t look as cool as he thinks he does.
[[What do you want?]]
[[I feel like I just walked into a scene from a bad movie. I mean... really? Mysterious hooded dude in an alleyway chomping on an apple? What, are you about to let me in on a little secret?]]The hooded man gets flustered and nearly chokes on his apple.
[[Next|aslfkgsddlgir]]The hooded man gets flustered and throws the apple over his shoulder.
[[Next|aslfkgslgir]]MAN:
Forget about the apple and- ugh! I was trying to be dramatic. Why’d you have to ruin it!? You know what? Forget it, I’m just going to leave.
[[What? Was there a point to any of this?]]
[[What a weirdo.]]MAN:
(coughing) I was trying to be dramatic but... that didn't go over well. And now... (gasp) I just look like an idiot. Forget it, I’m just going to leave.
[[What? Was there a point to any of this?]]
[[What a weirdo.]]MAN:
No! The author threw in this goofy scene to fill up some space. He must be running out of ideas.
[[I don’t understand what you’re talking about.]]
[[Thanks for wasting my time, apple man.]]MAN:
I swear I'm not normally this weird! The author must have thrown in this goofy scene to fill up some space. He must be running out of ideas.
[[I don’t understand what you’re talking about.]]
[[Thanks for wasting my time, apple man.]]MAN:
All right, listen. You’re here to find the tyrant, right? Well, he’s in that castle over there. See it? Up there on the ridge? Well, he’s fortified it pretty good. Nobody goes in or out without his permission. But I know a secret entrance. There’s a tunnel that leads from the tavern to the castle. It was used to cart in barrels of wine and ale before High Rock was invaded. I doubt the tyrant knows about it, so you could probably sneak in that way.
[[Why are you telling me this?]]
[[Is this some sort of trick?]]MAN:

I used to work at the tavern. And trust me, nobody in this town wants to be ruled over by that scumbag. Who do you think sent out the contract to have him killed? We all pitched in whatever we could. The sooner you guys take him out, the better.
[[Thanks for the tip.]]
[[Don’t worry, we’ll have him out of here before the next sunrise.]]MAN:
It’s no trick, I promise.
Don't mention it. I can’t wait for things to go back to normal. Good luck, friend.
[[Next|alsdkgjirgjb]]MAN:
Glad to hear it. I can’t wait for things to go back to normal. Good luck, friend.
[[Next|alsdkgjirgjb]]The mysterious man slips away into the shadows. You meet back up with the other ronin to discuss what you learned. They agree that investigating the tavern would be an excellent idea- after all, who could blame a wandering swordsman for immediately grabbing a drink upon his arrival in town?
[[Next|slfgor9rb]]You enter the tavern. Surprisingly, there are no guards inside. Unsurprisingly, the mysterious man was telling the truth- the bartender eagerly ushers you into the cellar and reveals the secret passageway leading into the castle. You toss him a coin and enter the dusty tunnel.
[[Nest|g9f8f990900]]You emerge from the tunnel into an elaborately decorated room. Dozens of scantily clad women squeal and scamper away as you and the ronin enter the room from behind a scandalous tapestry. This must be the tyrant’s harem.
[[Next|sdf8849if]]Unfortunately, the sudden rush of half naked women shrieking and running through the castle has drawn some unwanted attention. The tyrant’s guards immediately flood into the room!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 18>>\You fight alongside the ronin and cut down the guards. Once your task is complete you make your way through the castle to the throne room. The vicious warlord is sitting on a throne of skulls. His face is hidden by a demonic mask.
[[Your reign of tyranny is at an end!]]
[[Step off the throne and submit to justice!]]TYRANT:
Never! My right to rule is divine. High Rock is lucky to be ruled by a lord such as me! Begone from my palace and never return!
[[Next|sdgsdflr]]TYRANT:
None may command me! My right to rule is divine. High Rock is lucky to be ruled by a lord such as me! Begone from my palace and never return!
[[Next|sdgsdflr]]RONIN:
Your head is worth a fortune to us. We have come to claim it.
[[Next|alskfgsldkglr]]The warlord is furious. He leaps off his throne and draws two large katanas off his back. You and the ronin prepare for a fight.
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 19>>\The ronin fight with such fire, you can hardly believe it. The warlord’s style matches theirs, but you suddenly begin throwing in your Water Style moves. The combination of Fire and Water is too much for the tyrant- you outmaneuver him and finally one of the ronin shoves his blade into the warlord’s neck.
[[Next|sdf9s940frg]]The armored warlord flops to the ground in a puddle of blood. His villainy will no longer plague this land.
[[Next|sdfgid9f]]RONIN:
Your fighting skills are most impressive. If I’m not mistaken, you are a master of the Water Style. Why do you wish to learn our Fire Style? You can clearly handle yourself in a fight.
[[My mind is an empty cup waiting to be filled. I seek to learn all I can about the martial arts.]]
[[I am on a quest to destroy an evil Shyfter, but the only way to do so is to master all 4 elemental styles.]]RONIN:
A lifelong student! That is indeed admirable. Very well- we will show you what we know.
[[Next|lsdfgksdgi]]RONIN:
A Shyfter? If that is true, then I feel it is our duty to assist you in this endeavor. Very well- we will show you what we know.
[[Next|lsdfgksdgi]]The ronin demonstrate a variety of techniques. Their fighting style is fast and forceful. They move from natural postures into explosive strikes with the suddenness of a spark igniting a forest fire. Before long you have absorbed all of their teachings.
[[Next|sdfogjisr]]RONIN:
We have taught you all we can, but what good is teaching if the student does not learn the lessons? Come! This will be your final test. Show us what you have learned!
[[Next|sflldflsge]]The ronin surround you and drop into fighting positions. You grin as they begin to attack.
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 20>>\Your mastery of the Flame Spirit impresses the ronin. They bow to you and thank you again for your aid in bringing down the tyrant. You part ways before the sun rises.
[[Next|sdf8g9sdu9gr]]You have now reached the halfway point in your journey to learn the elemental forms of kung fu. Fire and Water are yours, but Earth and Wind are yet to be mastered. You look to the horizon, wondering what will be next. Find out in the next chapter!
CHAPTER 5
"STONE FIST"
[[Begin|ch5]]

\SOLDIER:
On your knees, dog!
[[OK|lasdkfgsjl]]The soldier jabs you in the back with the end of his spear, forcing you down to the ground. Dozens of soldiers weave their way through the mass of shivering bodies. Peasants and farmers cower in terror as the soldiers pick on them seemingly at random.
[[OK|asdf8g9r9]]How did you get here? When our story left off last time, you had just learned the powerful Flame Spirit style of kung fu. But it seems your fortunes have taken a turn for the worse- you are now being held prisoner along with hundreds of other villagers. An old farmer whistles as if calling out to someone. The soldier smacks him with his spear.
[[OK|lsfkjglsr]]SOLDIER:
Be quiet, you doddering old fool! No whistling allowed!
[[OK|sldfkglsdk]]The soldier wanders off to torment someone else. The old man leans in and whispers in your ear.
[[OK|sd9fgs98]]OLD MAN:
These jackals have been roaming across the countryside raiding villages and taking people to serve as slaves and concubines. I thought I’d seen the last of such wickedness after the Old War, but I guess some things never change.
[[A life of peace would be a dream.]]
[[Clearly these guys think they can do whatever they want. Someone needs to teach them a lesson.]]OLD MAN:
You speak of peace, but I can see you have a great fire in your eyes! Good for fighting, but perhaps not so good for staying alive. As for me, I like to take a more... shall we say, “grounded” approach.
[[What do you suggest?]]
[[Your puns make me think you’re the master of Earth kung fu I have been seeking.]]OLD MAN:
You have a fiery spirit! Good for fighting, but perhaps not so good for staying alive. As for me, I like to take a more... shall we say, “grounded” approach.
[[What do you suggest?]]
[[Your puns make me think you’re the master of Earth kung fu I have been seeking.]]OLD MAN:
Patience. When you plant an acorn, do you expect to see it blossom into a great oak tree after watering it one time? With my whistle I have set something in motion that cannot be stopped. We must wait for my efforts to bear fruit. Only then will the time to strike be upon us.
[[OK|s8fdg9se]]OLD MAN:
Your mind is as sharp as a sword! But have patience- we will get to that in a moment. With my whistle I have set something in motion that cannot be stopped. We must wait for my efforts to bear fruit. Only then will the time to strike be upon us.
[[OK|s8fdg9se]]You don’t have to wait long. Just a few seconds later 16 wild horses with long, flowing manes emerge from the nearby woods. They sweep through the encampment sending the entire scene into chaos. Soldiers and villagers flee as the horses stampede through the camp.
[[OK|lskfgirir]]OLD MAN:
Now’s our chance! Let’s get out of here!
[[OK|fsjgrjgri]]Just then the soldier who was antagonizing you appears. He is furious, but he isn’t panicking like the others.
[[OK|sdfgpsd0r]]SOLDIER:
That was a nasty trick, old man! You will pay for that!
[[Back off, chump!]]
[[Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?]]SOLDIER:
I’ll cut you both down where you stand!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 21>>\SOLDIER:
I’ll cut you both down where you stand!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 21>>\You and the old man beat the stuffing out of the soldier. The old man urges you to follow him as he leaps onto the back of one of the magnificent stallions. You grab hold of a charcoal mare and ride off into the wilderness with the old man.
[[OK|sd9f8gu94j]]A short while later you arrive at a tiny hut near a babbling brook. The old man dismounts and pats the horse on the neck. The horse whinnies and shakes its mane before trotting off into the woods once again. Your horse follows close behind.
[[Are you some kind of animal speaker?]]
[[Why did you bring me here?]]OLD MAN:
My name is Sonny. As you may have guessed, I am a master of the Earth Style of kung fu, better known as Stone Fist. And I am well aware of who you are- I was told to be on the lookout for a student seeking to master the four elemental forms of kung fu.
[[It is an honor to meet you.]]
[[I wish to learn Stone Fist, but... what about those villagers? Someone has to stop those bandits!]]OLD MAN:

[[It is an honor to meet you.]]
[[I wish to learn Stone Fist, but... what about those villagers? Someone has to stop those bandits!]]SONNY:
Likewise. But we have a grave matter to discuss. I’m getting a little old for these sorts of adventures, but I could never sit by while those hooligans rounded up and abused the people of this realm. Therefore, I will make you a deal: you help me to defeat these scoundrels and I will teach you Earth kung fu.
[[Deal!]]
[[What can you tell me about the raiders?]]SONNY:
I agree.
Good. Now listen: the raiders are led by an evil witch with white hair. They do her bidding and she slowly gains power from the shadows. If we are to save the villagers and put an end to these raids, we must cut off the serpent’s head, so to speak.
[[How are we going to fight a witch?]]
[[How will we find this witch?]]SONNY:
The raiders are led by an evil witch with white hair. They do her bidding and she slowly gains power from the shadows. If we are to save the villagers and put an end to these raids, we must cut off the serpent’s head, so to speak.
[[How are we going to fight a witch?]]
[[How will we find this witch?]]SONNY:
With great care. She lives alone in the swamp surrounded by lizards and leopards eager to do her bidding. It will be a dangerous journey, but there is a ray of hope: she is mortal, and so she can be killed. Once we defeat her, the spell shrouding this land will be broken and the people will be free once again.
[[Let’s not waste any time.]]
[[The villagers deserve their freedom. The witch will pay for her crimes!]]SONNY:

[[Next|73638]]You and Sonny eat a quick supper, gather a few supplies, and venture out into the wild.
[[Next|73638]]Your trek through the swamp is miserable. Sticky mud sucks at your feet and the stagnant water stinks so bad it makes your eyes water. After a short while you arrive at a small cave entrance.
[[OK|sdlfig8sj]]SONNY:
This must be the witch’s lair. We should be cautious. She commands the creatures of the wild, so we must be ready for anything. Take this knife- it may come in handy in our fight against the witch.
[[OK|sfd9g9dsf]]Sonny hands you a silver knife. You remember hearing legends that monsters and magical creatures are weak to silver, but there is something odd about this knife. The weight is off, as if the hilt was slightly too heavy, unbalancing the weapon.
[[OK|sdf9gsd9f0]]Your musings are cut short, however. At that moment a giant snake slithers out of the cave and lunges at you!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 22>>\You and Sonny defeat the serpent and step over the giant coiled body. Sonny urges you to move with caution as you enter the cave.
[[Next|dyyeyeuue]]The cave is a maze of narrow tunnels, but it doesn’t take long to find the main chamber. You and Sonny enter the torch-lit cavern and come face to face with the white-haired witch.
[[OK|fsd9gsfd8]]WITCH:
My minions informed me there were intruders in my swamp! They told me two heroes had come to end my evil, but you’re just an old man and a young brat!
[[Your dark magic has no place in this land. Begone!]]
[[The people of this realm deserve peace. We cannot allow you to oppress them any longer.]]WITCH:
You are wrong! I am the mistress of this land! I watch and rule all from the shadows! You will not take that from me!
[[OK|sfr89r9re]]WITCH:
Very noble of you, but I am the mistress of this land! I watch and rule all from the shadows! You will not take that from me!
[[OK|sfr89r9re]]The witch shoots a bolt of lightning from her fingertip. It strikes Sonny in the chest, killing him instantly. The witch laughs as a dozen leopards slink into the chamber.
[[Sonny! No!]]
[[You’ll pay for that!]]WITCH:
Your master is dead, you nosey little runt. Now my beasties will devour your bones!
[[OK|dlfkgsdkf]]WITCH:
Your master is dead, you nosey little runt. Now my beasties will devour your bones!
[[OK|dlfkgsdkf]]The leopards rush forward. They’re going to eat you!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 23>>\You fight off the leopards, but a deep fear has settled in your heart. Sonny is dead. The one person who could teach you Earth kung fu is gone... how will you ever manage to wield the magic sword and fight Lord Hawk without mastering the four elemental styles of kung fu?
[[OK|asdfosidjfo]]The witch’s laughter cuts through your pain like a knife. Suddenly remembering the silver blade Sonny gave you, you rush forward and attack the white-haired witch.
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 24>>\The witch hurls deadly spells at you, but your kung fu skills allow you to avoid every blast. Finally you’re able to get close enough to strike. You stab the blade through the witch’s heart. She shrieks in agony as she melts away.
[[OK|dskfjgsdl]]You let go of the knife as the blade begins to sizzle and liquefy with the witch. In a moment the witch is nothing more than a puddle of goo and the knife is gone. All that remains is a tiny canister, which falls to the floor.
[[OK|lasfkgslk]]You pick up the canister and begin to examine it. This little tube must have been hidden in the hilt of the knife- that’s why it felt so unbalanced. You unscrew the lid and pull out a small scrap of paper. Your eyes are dazzled by the sight- this parchment contains the secrets to Stone Fist kung fu!
[[OK|sdf89g938]]After reading the words written upon the scroll, you magically absorb the scroll’s secrets and suddenly find yourself to be a master of Stone Fist! Using your new knowledge, you punch a hole in the cave wall, creating an exit. You step out into the sunlight and look to the horizon.
[[OK|lfskgsdrji]]The witch’s spell over this land is broken and Sonny is dead, but you can waste no more time here. Lord Hawk has the Scroll of Sages and you still have to master Wind Kung Fu before you can wield the magic blade. Only two chapters remain in this tale of elemental mastery. Press onward to experience the penultimate chapter in our kung fu saga!
CHAPTER 6
"WARRIOR WIND"
[[Begin|ch6]]

\You cry out for peace as the two powerful Wind Masters exchange deadly blows. It wasn’t supposed to end this way... these men were supposed to teach you!
[[OK|sfdogior]]You arrived at the School of Wind last night after learning of its existence from a seafaring merchant. You were surprised to discover that the school was run by two masters and that they had hundreds of students enrolled in their training program.
[[OK|sdf7gs84]]But when you arrived, you didn’t find wise old mentors eager to pass on their teachings to a younger generation. Instead, you found two greedy, hot-tempered glory hounds who couldn’t agree on anything. Apparently they'd been embroiled in a decades-long rivalry that had finally come to a head.
[[OK|laskgari]]And now here, tonight, those two masters have finally decided to end their little feud once and for all- by fighting a duel to the death in front of their students. Things couldn’t possibly get any worse.
[[OK|sakeooe]]I’m sorry. Did I say things couldn’t get any worse? What I meant to say was “things are about to get far worse than you could possibly imagine.”
[[OK|lskdfgslrii]]The gathered students are cheering on their masters and making secret wagers on the outcome of the fight. Clearly the rivalry between the masters has caused a rift in the school, leaving half of the students rooting for one master while the rest root for the other.
[[OK|s9fds9g0]]A sudden scream cuts the bloody battle short. A moment later the crowd disperses as a dozen muscle-bound gargoyles swoop into the school and begin attacking students at random. Most of the students flee in terror, but a few stand and fight. Several gargoyles surround you, cackling without mercy. There is no escape!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 25>>\Your sweet kung fu moves keep the gargoyles at bay. Seeing that you won’t be an easy target, they turn their attention to the masters. Weakened from their duel with one another, the masters are helpless to defend themselves against the sudden gargoyle attack. The gargoyles capture the masters and flee into the night.
[[OK|dyf63fbk]]The remaining students look dumbfounded.
[[What just happened?]]
[[Do gargoyles attack your school often?]]STUDENT:
Those gargoyles live in a castle on the mountaintop. We have had problems with them before, but the masters have always been here to fend them off. If not for you, we might have all been killed- none of us has even mastered the basics of kung fu yet! But now the gargoyles have taken our masters... you must rescue them!
[[How do I get to the gargoyle castle?]]
[[What else can you tell me about the gargoyles?]]STUDENT:

[[How do I get to the gargoyle castle?]]
[[What else can you tell me about the gargoyles?]]STUDENT:
There is a path that leads through the mountain. It is a dangerous route, but there is no other way to reach the castle. Follow the path to the top and you’ll arrive at the front gate. Please be careful!
[[OK|asfogro]]STUDENT:
They only attack at night. I think they fear the sun. I’m afraid that if our masters are killed, there will be no one to protect our villages from them. You have to help us!
[[How do I get to the gargoyle castle?]]You grit your teeth and set out in search of the mountain path.
[[Next|fdsgyg4ru9]]The path through the mountains is indeed treacherous, but it is not without its rewards. You pass several ancient shrines and monoliths dedicated to the various gods of the world. At one of the shrines you discover a staff carved with the image of the sun. You say a quick prayer to the shrine and promise to return the staff as soon as your quest is over- you have a feeling this staff may come in handy in your fight against the gargoyles. Grabbing the staff, you continue on your way.
[[OK|skafaksgo]]The path ends at the entrance to the castle. You begin exploring the area, searching for alternate entrances or signs of any traps, when suddenly a group of gargoyles appears. They block your path and attempt to rip your head off.
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 26>>\You beat down the gargoyles and make your way inside the castle.
[[Next|sdfsfjgfkkkleeep]]Most of the chambers within the castle are empty, but upon your arrival in the throne room you find the two Wind Masters suspended from the ceiling by ropes. They are being slowly lowered into a bubbling cauldron of soup.
[[Why are you lowering them into that pot of soup so slowly? If you were smart, you’d just toss them in and be done with it.]]
[[Release those men immediately!]]GARGOYLE:
Do you think you’re smarter than us, human? Have you ever heard of torture? By slowly lowering these fools into the soup, we can increase their suffering (and therefore their tastiness) by dragging this out for as long as possible!
[[Ya know... in a weird and twisted way, that actually kinda makes sense.]]
[[I won’t let you do this. I’ve come here to rescue them!]]GARGOYLE:
No! You will die now!
[[OK|agslfgsdf]]GARGOYLE:
Of course it makes sense! But your presence here is a disturbance- it gives them hope, and if they’re filled with too much hope their bodies will become tough and chewy. We can’t allow that. That is why you will die now!
[[OK|agslfgsdf]]GARGOYLE:
No! You will die now!
[[OK|agslfgsdf]]The gargoyles charge at you with fangs bared.
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 27>>\You fend off the gargoyles with the sun staff. You are weary, but you raise the staff over your head and shout out an incantation. Suddenly the blazing light of a thousand suns erupts from the tip of the staff. The terrified gargoyles are instantly turned to stone.
[[OK|asefeasef]]You rush forward to free the Wind Masters, but suddenly a powerful hand grasps your wrist. A monstrously large gargoyle yanks the sun staff from your hand and snaps it over his knee.
[[OK|as9fg984i]]GARGOYLE:
Your pathetic tricks may work against my minions, but I am the master! Sunlight does not phase me. You have only succeeded in prolonging your own doom. I will add your corpse to my soup and devour your bones!
[[I think not!]]
[[You won’t be eating anything except a knuckle sandwich!]]The gargoyle snarls and lunges at you.
<<set $state = 28>>\Using the powers of Earth, Water, and Flame, you manage to defeat the gargoyle king and save the Wind Masters just in the nick of time. They both grumble about the fact that the other wasn’t killed in the scuffle, but they are grateful to you for saving their lives.
[[OK|asgooao]]WIND MASTER #1:
I hate to admit this, but you are quite a powerful warrior. I owe you my life. Though if I’m being honest, you could have let him die. Nobody would have been upset about that.
[[OK|aksogsla]]WIND MASTER #2:
You obnoxious lump! You should have died, not me! If not for you, I would have been strong enough to fight them off in the first place!
[[You two bicker like an old married couple!]]
[[SHUT UP!]]WIND MASTER #1:
Forgive me. Your actions today merit a reward. If there is anything you desire, please tell me.
[[Actually, I think you can both help me. I seek to master the Warrior Wind Kata.]]WIND MASTER #1:

To become a master of the Warrior Wind, you must be both silent and deadly.
[[Silent but deadly? Wait a second... I already know this technique!]]
[[Please teach me.]]WIND MASTER #1:
You do?
[[Yeah, dude. Check this out!]]
[[Allow me to demonstrate.]]The Wind Masters assume fighting stances. A moment later they begin to move, demonstrating each move of the kata with elegance and grace. The second time they show you the kata, you join them in their movements. Before the sun rises, you have mastered the form.
[[OK|asig9r9]]You close your eyes and let out what you expect to be a silent, rancid fart. Instead you unleash a loud, wet fart that echoes throughout the castle. The Wind Masters wrinkle their noses.
CHAPTER 7
"THE MAGIC SWORD"
[[Begin|ch7]]

\Here it is, folks! The final chapter of our little kung fu saga! Grab your nunchucks and strap on your blackbelts because you’re in for a wild ride!
[[OK|aslkgrlk]]We pick up our tale in the temple high atop Shining Mountain. Your Sensei and the other grandmasters have gathered to witness an event that has not been seen in a thousand generations- a hero (YOU, in this particular scenario) who has mastered all 4 elemental forms of kung fu has come to claim the Magic Sword of the 7 Golden Dragons.
[[OK|sdfjgsiri9r]]SENSEI:
You have done well, my student, and I am very proud of you. But the greatest trial lies ahead. Once you take that magic sword, it will be up to you to defeat Lord Hawk. The fate of the world quite literally rests in your hands.
[[Don’t worry, Sensei. I won’t let you down.]]
[[Lord Hawk doesn’t stand a chance against me! I’m awesome!]]Sensei smiles and takes a step back. You approach the altar, reach out your hand, and grasp the hilt of the glittering blade. A swirl of magical energy fills the room- but it’s not coming from you. Spinning around, you see that dozens of magicians have surrounded you and the masters.
[[OK|sd9f9rs098r]]SENSEI:
Warrior Wizards from the north! They mean to steal the magic sword. We must defeat them!
[[OK|asgureie]]The Warrior Wizards begin casting spells and punching people.
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 29>>\The Warrior Wizards are fearsome foes, but now that you’ve mastered the 4 elemental forms of kung fu and taken the magic sword you are nearly invincible. You slaughter them and turn back to the masters. You are horrified to see that several are gravely wounded or dead. Sensei is lying on the floor in a pool of his own blood, gasping for air.
[[SENSEI!!!!!]]
[[Don’t die on me, man!]]SENSEI:
Word of your accomplishment must have reached Lord Hawk’s ears by now. He is sending assassins to do his dirty work for him. I have taught you all I can, but my time is at an end. Just remember your lessons. The magic sword does not give you power- your power comes from within. The blade only enhances that power. It will give you the ability to slay the Shyfter, but if you forget the basics and your kung fu is bad... you will never get within striking distance. Remember the basics...
[[OK|9sfdg7sd73]]Sensei closes his eyes and dies. The other grandmasters gather around the body and offer their respects. Master Yen places a hand on your shoulder.
[[OK|aisosodee]]MASTER YEN:
Time is short. You can mourn your master later. Right now, you need to find Lord Hawk and reclaim the Scroll of Sages. If he is able to harness the power of that scroll, there’s no telling what kind of evil he will unleash upon this world.
[[How do I find him?]]
[[Does he have a secret base or something?]]MASTER YEN:
Lord Hawk built a fortress on an island amidst a fog-shrouded lake to the north. Go there and fulfill your destiny!
[[OK|sdf99s8]]MASTER YEN:
Lord Hawk built a fortress on an island amidst a fog-shrouded lake to the north. Go there and fulfill your destiny!
[[OK|sdf99s8]]You bow to the remaining grandmasters and begin your journey north.
[[Next|fs904044]]After a long travel montage, you finally approach the rocky shore of a lake. The water seems to stretch on forever before being lost in a cloud of thick fog. A single rickety row boat sits on the beach. A skeleton in a black robe stands inside.
[[Are you Lord Hawk's undead ferryman?]]
[[Do I need to pay you a coin or something to cross the lake?]]The hooded figure nods its head yes.
[[I must reach the island in the middle of this lake. Please ferry me across.]]
[[Do I need to pay you a coin or something to cross the lake?]]The hooded being points a skeletal finger over your shoulder. A hulking one-eyed minotaur carrying an enormous cleaver is standing right behind you. The minotaur bellows, lifts the cleaver, and attempts to chop you in half!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 30>>\The hooded figure shakes its head no.
[[Please, I must cross this lake! What must I do to cross?]]

[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 30>>\You backflip away from the minotaur’s attacks and cut off its head with your magic sword. The impact of the giant body hitting the ground shakes the very foundations of the world. You turn back to the ferryman. The hooded figure extends a bony finger and motions for you to enter the boat. You sheathe your blade and hop in. The ferryman shoves off and you glide out onto the lake.
[[OK|sdf9g8us9d8]]Passing through the fog makes you feel like you’re entering another world... a world of evil and darkness. After what seems like an eternity, the row boat gently slides up against a sandy beach. The skeleton and row boat vanish the moment you step on the beach. Creepy.
[[OK|a98ug9seru]]The castle entrance is unguarded. You draw your sword and enter.
[[Next|sdfgj3i4r]]You step into a candlelit chamber. Lord Hawk is sitting in meditation... but he is floating a foot off the ground! And so are the candles!
[[OK|ksosdosror44]]LORD HAWK:
I have been expecting you. You and your master have been a thorn in my side ever since I discovered the secret resting place of the Scroll of Sages. But your meaningless interferences will trouble me no longer- for I have read the Scroll of Sages and unlocked its secrets! The mysteries of time and space have been laid bare to me, and now there is nothing that can stand in my way from dominion over this pathetic world!
[[You’re wrong- I can stand in your way!]]
[[You have a magic scroll and I have a magic sword. Let’s see which is more powerful!]]Lord Hawk laughs as he gently lands on his feet. He draws a jagged katana and drops into a fighting stance. You twirl your magic sword and assume a frivolous kung fu pose. The two of you have a dramatic stare-down across the candlelit throne room. Without warning the fight begins!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 31>>\Lord Hawk laughs as he gently lands on his feet. He draws a jagged katana and drops into a fighting stance. You twirl your magic sword and assume a frivolous kung fu pose. The two of you have a dramatic stare-down across the candlelit throne room. Without warning the fight begins!
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 31>>\Blades clash and fists fly as you duel the powerful Shyfter. Whatever secrets were hidden in that scroll have only served to make the dark lord even more powerful- his swordplay and kung fu is impossibly fast and precise. After several minutes of intense fighting Lord Hawk sweeps your leg and knocks you to the ground. You stare up at him in amazement.
[[OK|s9d8fg94i]]LORD HAWK:
Your skill is most impressive, but your quest ends here in defeat. I see you are attempting to use the elemental forms of kung fu, but you have clearly failed to grasp their teachings. Your Water mirrors the low energy of a dribbling stream, your Earthly foundations are weak, your Flame is little more than a flickering spark, and your Wind is less like a hurricane and more like a fart. Did you really think you could defeat me with those pathetic skills?
[[Sensei... I have failed you...]]
[[I must have been fooling myself... there is no way to defeat a Shyfter! Not even this sword has that kind of power!]]Suddenly your Sensei’s voice fills your head:
"...The magic sword does not give you power- your power comes from within... If your kung fu is bad you will never get within striking distance... Remember the basics..."
[[OK|sodfjg8r94kdog]]Suddenly your Sensei’s voice fills your head:
"...The magic sword does not give you power- your power comes from within... If your kung fu is bad you will never get within striking distance... Remember the basics..."
[[OK|sodfjg8r94kdog]]Realizing that you’ve forgotten to center yourself, you take a deep breath and grab the magic sword. Lord Hawk laughs at your pathetic attempt to fight him, but he shows no mercy as he rushes forward and attacks.
[[Fight]]
<<set $state = 32>>\Channeling the powers of all four elements, you infuse the magic sword with all your power and stab the blade through the Shyfter’s chest. Lord Hawk shrieks in terror as his body is engulfed in ice, wind, earth, and flame. He explodes into a cloud of dust, banished from this realm and all realms forevermore.
[[OK|sofsgoiri]]A roll of parchment flutters to the ground and lands on top of the dust pile. You pick it up. This parchment is the Scroll of Sages! Your final choice is at hand: will you read the scroll and achieve immortality by combining its power with that of the magic sword, or will you return the scroll to its resting place and seal it away where it belongs?
[[Read the scroll]]
[[Return the scroll]]You read the words written upon the scroll and suddenly your mind is expanded. You see the interconnected mysteries of the universe in the blink of an eye, and suddenly the knowledge of all kung fu is yours. Those pathetic grandmasters never knew the power that was lurking under their very noses. It is all so clear now- they are weak and you are strong. Never again will you submit to their foolish whims. With your newfound knowledge, you will be the master of all! Your destiny is your own. Go and take it!
THE END!You roll up the parchment and return to the grandmasters. They are humbled and impressed at your decision. They take the scroll and seal it away in the ancient tomb along with your Sensei, who gave his life to fight for it. You mourn for his loss, but a new world has opened up before you. Lord Hawk has been destroyed and the land will know peace once again. As for you, your destiny is your own. Embrace it!
